|
An exhibition of paintings of Thang Long-Hanoi and artifacts produced in different stages of Vietnam’s history opened at the Hanoi Citadel on January 25, 2006. On display are 53 large oil paintings, mostly reproduced from works by well-known Vietnamese and foreign painters, which feature the former imperial city of Thang Long with its architecture, streets, royal ceremonies and costumes. More than 1,000 antiques produced in the New Stone Age, cultures of Phung Nguyen, Dong Son, Sa Huynh, Oc Eo, Champa and Dong Nai and the Ly-Tran-Le-Nguyen dynasties, are also being displayed at the exhibition. They include bronze drums, tools, weapons, lamps, pottery jars, pots, bowls and wine bottles. Visitors will also have a chance to see various Chinese pottery and porcelain items brought into the country between the 14th and early 20th centuries. The show, jointly organised by the Hanoi People’s Committee and the National Steering Board for Celebrations of the 1,000 Years of Thang Long-Hanoi, will last until February 28, 2006. (Source: VNA)
