Swiss couple on world record tour reach Vietnam

A Swiss couple arrived in Vietnam Thursday in what is described as the longest car journey mentioned in the Guinness Book of World Records. 

Vietnam is the 152nd country Emil and Liliana Schmid are visiting during their 21-year trip which has spanned over 600,000 kilometers.

The couple arrived at Vietnam’s southern metro Ho Chi Minh City from neighboring Cambodia. After visiting the capital Hanoi for New Year, they will continue to Laos.

Since October 1984, the two have visited North and South America, Africa, Australia, Asia, and the Middle East.

In May 1997 they achieved a triple entry in the Guinness Book for the most countries, most kilometers, and most years in a single car, a report in the Saigon Times Daily said. It also said they had been in Southeast Asia since early this year.
